Kanye West’s favorite producer and engineer Mike Dean recently sat down with Quiet Lunch for an interview. He spoke on is production work with Tupac on Scarface’s 1997 song ‘Smile’, state of Hip-Hop today, favorite people to work with, upcoming work and more.
At the 5:30 mark, Mike Dean reveals that he’s currently working on the G.O.O.D. Music album Cruel Summer and will be starting on Watch The Throne 2 shortly. Watch the chat below.

Kanye West debuted his much talked about, 30 minute short film Cruel Summer at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday night. Along with his beautiful girlfriend Kim Kardashian, other high profile guests included Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Pusha T and Big Sean. The film was debuted at a pyramid-shaped tent at a car park across seven big screens.
The Guardian explains the film as:
Made in association with the Doha Film Institute, Cruel Summer stars West’s GOOD Music protege Kid Cudi as a bloke of bad stock. Dad was a car thief – Kid’s desperate not to follow in his footsteps, so instead he walks through a sparkly purple door into the middle of the desert. Men on horseback arrest him. He’s taken to a palace full of fruit. A blind girl plucks a giant guitar string. Cudi’s wrapped in bandages. A hawk flies. In, ultra, slow, motion. Cudi resolves to cure his love of her blindness. The cure for blindness is a remix of a song by Coldplay.
In his speech, Kanye said that they finished the film just in time for the Cannes festival as they were shooting in Qatar just 4 weeks back: “All odds were against us having this moment in Cannes… (it is still a) rough draft.”
He also said this about the 7 screens:
“You’re always looking at a BlackBerry when you’re at a ball game or the theatre. It’s because of the amount of information we have at once… I can dream one day that (this) will be the way that one day people will watch movies”

Rapper Trina allegedly cost a concert promoter THOUSANDS of dollars this month … after no-showing at a performance in St. Louis … but Trina insists the promoter’s full of crap.
TMZ has obtained several letters sent to Trina’s booking agent — by the promoter’s lawyers — and according to the docs, the rapper was paid $7,000 to perform at a club called Imperial Palace in St. Louis on May 19th.
According to the letters, Trina’s team informed the promoter there was a scheduling conflict — but the rapper never formally canceled in writing, so the promoter went full steam ahead with the event.
Needless to say, May 19th rolled around — and Trina was nowhere to be seen.
The promoter tells TMZ, the event went on without Trina — held as a regular party at the club with DJ music — but people were pissed … and several demanded refunds.
Now, the promoter tells us, she’s planning to sue Trina for at least $16,000 — which includes Trina’s $7,000 fee, promotional costs, and other damages.
Trina’s rep tells TMZ, the rapper did agree to perform the gig — but cancelled long before the event due to other obligations … and even tried to return her $7,000 advance. Trina’s rep says the promoter refused to accept it.
What’s more, Trina’s rep believes the promoter falsely advertised the event as a Trina concert, knowing in advance Trina wouldn’t be performing. Trina’s rep says the rapper is now weighing legal options of her own.
For what is shaping up to actually be a Cruel Summer, Big Sean has already hit the market hard this Spring with a slew of solid features (Meek Mill’s “Burn,” Chief Keef’s “I Don’t Like,” and G.O.O.D. Music’s “Mercy”) and to keep up his momentum, the Detroit will attempt to capitalize off his latest success by dropping his much anticipated sophomore album. But here’s the catch, he currently doesn’t have a title as of yet. Speaking with XXL, the 24 year-old “Dance (Ass)” rapper discusses the idea of possibly naming the LP after one of his favorite ad-libs (“swerve”), and reveals a little detail concerning his first single’s producer.
On Considering “Swerve” as a Title:
“Swerve is just my adlib…it ain’t going to be the title of my next album. That’s a good- ass title though. I ain’t mad at it. That’s just something we made up. We’ve been saying that for years in the D, so yeah, it might be.”
On His First Single’s Producer, Key Wane:
“Key Wane actually produced my first single,” Sean said. “NO ID is probably executive producing, and he’s my A&R, him and Kanye, of course. Key Wane is from Detroit. We went to high school together; he was younger. He’s the first producer I signed, and he’s going to be legendary. I’m excited to be working with him.”
In related news, it was announced yesterday that Big Sean nabbed three nominations for the July 1st BET Awards show, including one for Best Male Hip Hop Artist!
Three weeks after the passing of Adam Yauch, Rolling Stone has posthumously given the Beastie Boys front man the cover of their new issue. The tribute features stories from friends including, Spike Jonze, Rick Rubin, Billy Corgan and many more. Issue hits newsstands on May 25th.
The cover story includes the first interviews given by surviving Beasties Adam Horovitz and Mike Diamond, who address their grief and the question of what they will do now that their band is effectively over. “I’m totally confused,” says Horovitz. “I’m walking my dog and I’ll start crying on the street.”

Last week, Lil B sent out some hints on Twitter that he might be working with none other than Drake. To clear the rumors, Fuse caught up with the Based God as he was making his return to the US from his European tour. Confirming the collaboration, Lil B said:
“Yeah, we’re about to do something real big. I can’t speak on it too much right now, but Drake is the only artist [Lil B] wants to work with. We’ve talked about doing some production. [Drake] wants to do something and we’re gonna make it happen. Something real big, so just look out for it.”
